After Liu Ho Nam, Deputy Director of Public Security, Henan Sie Ping County, was detained, his wife, Zhao Junjie, was intervened in land disputes and suspected cases and publicly reported his name to the Secretary of the Disciplinary Commission of Si Ping County, among others. After only 16 days, Zhao Junjie was charged with the concealment of accounting documents and the transfer of money. During the trial, defence lawyers and company agents identified as “the victim units” challenged the case as a reprisal, pointing out that the investigation and prosecution proceedings had been flawed and jointly applied for a different trial and a different court.

The former Vice-President of the Hong Kong SAR, Zou Xianxiang, has appealed the conviction and seven-month sentence for “inciting subversion of State power”. The case will again test how the national security law defines the line between peaceful political initiatives, the six-four memorials and criminal responsibility.
