Beijing is considering a 13% return on electric car exports: instead of abandoning industrial warfare, subsidies are being turned into negotiating chips for Europe.

Beijing reportedly considers phasing out 13 per cent of the tax refunds on electric vehicles from next year. This would both send a “subsidy reduction” signal to the EU and would reduce the profits of small and medium-sized cars and promote industrial integration. The CPC is not withdrawing from industrial policy, but is directly integrating tax instruments into trade negotiations with the European Union.
