On 6 August, China received the latest news from the first line: Wang Xue, a prominent dissident poet and human rights defender (now Wang Yuwen), was again forcibly taken away today, 6 August, by State security agents of Chu Hsiung city, Yunnan province. At present, his communication is completely cut off and in a state of disconnection, and his family has not received any legal documents, and his whereabouts are unknown.

Sudden circumstances: Forced removal of the accused in early August

According to information received, the arrest took place directly after Wang Zhiu had issued a letter of indictment in his name. The local security services took Wang Zhiqing away without showing complete and legal formalities, and the situation was extremely worrying.

The Yunnan Dissensor's Zhuo was taken again on August 6th by Chu Hsiu.

Wang Zhiu officially signed the Opinions on 27 July 2026 on the “Downing Incident” of his nephew Wang Ho, which was used to satisfy the local government in South China, and went to Shunan County in Liangyun Harbour, Jiangsu Province to defend his rights and to sue the local government and the police for misconduct and violations of the strange death of his third-year-old nephew Wang Ho (in March 2023):

1. Surveillance suspects are covered up by grass: Key location surveillance is described by the police as “unable to replay” and only clips are provided; Prior to the incident, the local judicial authorities and village officials threatened her mother-in-law.

2. The village bulldoze forcibly buried bodies and grazes: The Sanjol branch secretary of Sanjo village in Tsang commune, Tsang Sug-gyu County, Pan Yu army illegally forcibly buried bodies without the consent of their families, and, after media attention, stole bodies from the private press, concealing the place where they had been buried for many years.

3. The following are the main challenges to the implementation of the law: Wang Zhu's request for a new investigation on behalf of his family, the prosecution of the leaders for their misconduct and the illegal and violent burial/destruction of bodies, and the payment of death compensation.

4. The statement made by Wang Zhio clearly stated that if justice is not done, the Ministry of Justice and the National Monitoring Commission will report to the Ministry of Justice and the National Monitoring Commission and that an independent civil investigation mission will be set up to defend the rights.

Historical background: newly released and hit again

Wang Xue has been imprisoned twice for supporting the umbrella movement in Hong Kong and for allegedly “inciting subversion of the State”, having spoken for years in poetry and speech, and was released in May 2024 after serving a four-year sentence. Only two years after his release, however, he was once again targeted by the authorities for a steady attack by visiting Jiangsu-Junnan to claim the strange death of his two-year-old nephew and to expose the abuses committed by local officials.

Appeal and Statement

China is calling for:

  • The authorities of Chuo Yunnan must immediately give the whereabouts of Wang Zhik and guarantee his fundamental human rights and personal security;
  • Guaranteeing his right to have access to a lawyer and to communicate with his family in accordance with the law;
  • Invite international human rights groups, freedom of the press initiatives and justice actors to follow the developments.
